… and so then
for Big Car
after a long while, Big Car’s story, from our perspective at least, comes to an end.
an unbelievable amount of time and effort has gone in and to finally have her up and running and in service has been a remarkable effort.
over the last few years, she’s been a trusty workhorse in her Guernsey home, faithfully slogging about surfboards, household appliances, candles, recyclables and more.
times change though and after a while, the practicalities of owning a great big ex-MOD 1980s Land Rover 110 become questionable. She’s a beast who needs to work, not sit quietly on a driveway waiting for a weekly run.
not to mention, she needs constant care and attention. don’t get me wrong, maintenance on a Landy is an absolute pleasure – but sometimes you just want to get in and get where you’re going.
and so after some lengthy soul-searching, it was decided to find Big Car a new home. and it’s perfect. she’ll be joining a local tree surgery business where she’ll become the latest member of a fleet of other Landies! so not only will she be working hard, but her new owner is a Landy enthusiast and can continue the maintenance and restoration job.
so in many ways another chapter has closed. our expectations that day when we made a pledge to see Big Car’s restoration through to completion were probably a little different to how things eventually turned out.
but as we’ve all learnt, things change, life happens. i think Simon would be proud with where we eventually got to – a working Land Rover.
RIP Simon Wilson 1980 – 2006.
